Mine Planning Engineer – Underground (Expat) – Phu Bia Mining

Description: Phu Bia Mining (the Lao subsidiary of PanAust) is hiring a Mine Planning Engineer – Underground. Permanent, full-time position reporting to the Mine Planning Superintendent, Mine Technical Services. Based in the corporate office in Vientiane, on a 5 days on / 2 days off schedule. About the company: PanAust is an Australian-headquartered copper and gold producer. Phu Bia Mining operates the Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation and the Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation, with several open pit and underground projects at scoping and feasibility stage. Responsibilities - Lead underground mine planning and study work for growth projects, producing mine designs, production schedules and cost estimates (using Deswik and other approved systems). - Deliver underground designs (lateral and vertical development, stope designs) and schedules at scoping, pre-feasibility and feasibility level. - Evaluate mining methods, access and portal options, ventilation and escape, pumping and water management, backfill and materials handling. - Maintain scheduling and cost-model inputs for capital and operating estimates, budgets and Life of Mine plans. - Prepare technical reports, approval papers, presentations and handover documentation. - Coordinate inputs from geology, geotechnical, hydrogeology, metallurgy, infrastructure, environment, finance and operations. - Identify technical, schedule and cost risks; support investment approvals and the transition from study to implementation. - Support technical due diligence and tenders for underground mining contractors. - Mentor junior engineers. Essential - Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a closely related discipline. - 5+ years in underground hard rock mining; substantial hard-rock mine planning experience. - High proficiency in Deswik; knowledge of long-hole open stoping, backfill, ventilation, pumping and contractor mining. - Professional English; ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams and to deadlines. Desirable: cost estimation and financial modelling, expatriate experience in SE Asia, contractor technical evaluation experience.
