Underground Geotechnical Engineer

Description: Phu Bia Mining Limited is a Lao-registered company, 90% owned by PanAust Limited (an Australian-headquartered copper and gold mining company) and 10% by the Government of Laos. It operates the Phu Kham Copper-Gold and Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver mines in Xaisomboun Province, 120 km north of Vientiane. The role: reporting to the Senior Geotech Engineer, provide technical leadership and geotechnical governance for BHX Underground, to ensure safe and efficient mining operations aligned with geotechnical design and risk management requirements. Responsibilities: - Conduct routine underground inspections and audits - Manage geotechnical risks including weak ground, groundwater and instability - Ensure compliance with GCMP and geotechnical TARPs - Conduct continuous data collection: structural mapping, classification (Q/RMR) mapping, damage mapping, core logging - Install, collect and analyse instrumentation data (extensometers, seismic system, LiDAR scanning, etc.) - Conduct ground support QAQC including pull testing, fibrecrete early strength testing and support compliance checks - Provide technical advice to operations and planning teams on rehabilitation, development designs, stope designs, water management and ground support designs - Mentor graduate geotechnical staff Requirements: - Degree in Mining, Geotechnical or Civil Engineering - 5+ years of underground mining experience - Experience in hard rock stoping operations - Experience with software such as Deswik, Leapfrog and the Rocscience suite (Dips, Unwedge, RS3) highly regarded - Strong influencing, consulting, mentoring, analytical and computer skills, with the ability to work across different levels of the organisation - Good work ethic and ability to treat documents confidentially - Ability to collaborate in a remote or isolated work environment and provide leadership when required Work and benefits: residential roster of 9 days on site and 5 days off in Vientiane.
